Setting up a website can be a major headache for many starting online entrepreneurs. Buying a domain, choosing and setting up hosting, DNS servers, FTP, installing scripts… this tech talk sounds so scary!

I’m no techie and got no time to learn this geeky stuff… These are the thoughts racing through the head of many.

I remember how i started couple of years ago, it was so frightening… I thought it was nearly impossible to setup my own website without learning html and all that techie stuff first. So I spent a full year learning html, php, servers and that kind of things before I gathered enough courage to create my own website!

Having own website is a basic requirement for any serious online business. However, it doesn’t stop with setting up a website. Here is a very basic overview of what you will need to get your online business going:

Once you’ve setup your own website and added some good content to it, you will need to monetize it in some way.

You could choose to earn money with Google Adsense program in which case you don’t even have to convince your visitors to buy anything nor you need to have anything to sell. Don’t expect to get rich from Adsense, if you’re earning $100 - $200 per month you’re doing OK (there are exceptions.

Another easy way for new marketers is to promote products of someone else, so called affiliate products, and get paid commissions from each sale referred. Plenty of affiliate products are available from places like Clickbank, Paydotcom.com or Amazon.

If you want to take your online business to a higher level, you could develop your own product (or have it developed) and keep all the profits to yourself. Marketing your own products can bring highest profits however developing own products cost money and/or your time.

Once you’ve decided how to monetize your newly built website the next most important thing you will need in order to make profit online is visitors to your site. As many as you can get. In the Internet marketing terms this is called “Traffic”. There ain’t no money with no traffic. Even if you have the best product in the world it will be no use to you if nobody knows about it!

Visitors = Traffic = Sales (money in your pocket)

There are many ways of how to get traffic to your site. There are various free ways how you can obtain free traffic for you site, you can buy the traffic, you can optimize your site so that you get natural traffic from search engines like Google, Yahoo, Msn… But this is a subject on its own and right now I am developing a special lens devoted only to the Traffic Getting Strategies.
